Liposuction or liposculpture is a surgical procedure performed when there is no contraindication for removal of localized fat deposits in different parts of the body. When indications and techniques are adequate, this surgery is used successfully, and is by no means treatment for obesity. The intervention involves removing fat from areas in the body, where it has accumulated, by making small incisions in the skin with a thin cannula connected to a sterile suction device. If the amount of fat needed to be removed is not important in relation to the body size, and if health allows, it can be performed under local anaesthesia and sedation.
