Breast reduction is a surgical technique, which reduces the size of the breasts, achieving smaller, firm – and proportionate to the rest of the body- breasts. It is usually done for cosmetic improvement but it also brings relief to a physical problem by discharging the spine and shoulders of too much weight. The procedure is performed in the operating theatre under general anaesthesia and may last from two to four hours. During surgery, excess skin, fat and breast tissue is removed, the areola and nipple are newly repositioned to make the breasts look better and have a more harmonious shape.
